"... for tomorrow we die!"

Then I'll say to myself, "You've stored up a lot of good things for years to come. Take life easy, eat, drink, and enjoy yourself.""But God said to him, 'You fool! I will demand your life from you tonight! Now who will get what you've accumulated?'Luke 12: 19-20

I've been thinking about the new ideology sweeping through the media subtly. Its been creeping in through songs, videos, movies, books, talk shows ... name it. When I hear them sound the different words, this is what registers in my brain 'lets live for today, for tomorrow we die'!
This is the new slogan, the new watchword of the 21st century. The pass code that enables you to free yourself of all responsibility for your actions. If tomorrow we die, then there's no need to be responsible for today, or the future, because when tomorrow comes, 'if' tomorrow comes, you won't be around to face the consequences. And since there's no one else to  consider but yourself, then we might as well eat and drink for today!
This ideology is also played out in politics. It is the only reason why the politicians of my once great country will keep shouting about the depleting oil reserves and the need to diversify from oil exports, but will keep stealing and embezzling government funds without trying to map out any successful route for diversification  Tomorrow, they'll be out of office and it will be someone else's headache to deal with the depleting resources. but for today, while the funds are still available, while credit is still available, while debt is still an option, lets eat and drink!
We have reduced the sanctity of life to the present. Life for us consists of what happens here and now. Yesterday is flushed down the drain and tomorrow is too far away to be relevant. Shame! If our lives consist of only the here and now, we are most miserable! Yesterday builds in us character and strength to face today, our resilience today comes from the victories of yesterday that will help us hold on and forge on until tomorrow comes. Tomorrow is as relevant as today and yesterday, because tomorrow we can erase the mistakes of yesterday and today; Tomorrow speaks of hope; Tomorrow inspires new beginnings and with new beginnings come a fresh lease on life. But no, we focus all our energies on the present! We live under the 'tyranny of the now'!
I am reminded of the rich fool in the Bible, who after he had worked, sat back to eat and drink and his soul was required of him that night. How like the rich fool we want to be when we choose to live under the tyranny of the now.

Break free, be responsible for your actions, learn lessons from yesterday, think about the choices you make today and how they affect tomorrow, plan for a beautiful tomorrow and work towards it. Hard work means consistency, and consistency always pays off. Choose life ... for tomorrow!

"And blessed  is  she that believed: for there shall be a performance of those things which were told her from the Lord." Luke 1:45 (KJV) "Now therefore, O LORD God, the word that You have spoken concerning Your servant and his house, confirm it forever and do as You have spoken," 2 Samuel 7:25 (NASB) Has the Lord given you a word?  Has it been fulfilled?  Hold on to His word in faith until it is fulfilled.  Give Him praise for fulling his word in your life. Be thankful and bless his name until you see it come to pass.  Mary heard the angel speak to her and he informed her of things to come. She believed, and there was a performance of the words that were spoken. David heard the words of God spoken to him through God's prophet and revealed to him by prophecy. He believed and prayed for its fulfillment.  Many times we receive a word from God, through revelation or through prophecy. What do we do with these words? Let's hold on t...

Companions

I'm taking down my pictures and posts on the wall because it's time to move on again. My mother's question chases me: 'when will i settle down?' But I'm digressing... At some point in my 9 month experiment, I found that the only place I could really draw strength and encouragement from was the Bible. Of course I had great friends in Geneva who played a special role in shaping God's work in my life, but there were sometimes when I  was so lost or confused and my only anchor was in the word. These passages I share with you today were my companion and guide, they mapped out the course of my life and God used them to build character and strength in me. I hope you benefit from them as much as I did. God bless you. Companion #1 You will keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on You, because he trusts in You. Isaiah 26: 3 Companion #2 For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the Lord, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a fu...

Song Alert: Kind - Amanda Cook

"For the LORD God is a sun and shield: the LORD will give grace and glory: no good thing will he withhold from them that walk uprightly." (Psalm 84:11) "The LORD is gracious and merciful; Slow to anger and great in lovingkindness." (Psalm 145:8) NASB "The LORD is merciful and gracious, slow to anger, and plenteous in mercy." (Psalm 103:8) "Then the LORD passed by in front of him and proclaimed, "The LORD, the LORD God, compassionate and gracious, slow to anger, and abounding in lovingkindness and truth;" (Exodus 34:6) I've been thinking for a few years about doing blog posts on songs that I'm listening to at a particular time; songs that have ministered to me in a particular season and helped me walk through some though times - but it's just been a thought.  Today, I decided to start that first blog post on these songs. For lack of creativity or bursting ingenuity, I'll call these posts 'Song Alert'. So to...
